Waste Management

Public Works

The Town of Placentia Public Works Department is responsible for such services as municipal water, wastewater, sidewalks, municipal buildings, parks, recreational infrastructure and other municipal properties. Placentia’s Public Works Department is also responsible for all aspects of municipal services and routine maintenance of the municipality’s buildings and capital assets.

Fire Protection

The Town of Placentia is dedicated to providing fire protection services to the community by protecting life, property and the environment through prevention, public education and emergency response with well maintained equipment and highly trained, dedicated personnel.

Recreation

The Town of Placentia is proud of its very long and storied heritage in sports, recreation and active living. The town prioritizes opportunities for all ages to engage in exercise and active lifestyles and backs that continued commitment and investment through its Recreation Commission.  

Placentia maintains a large network of parks and facilities for both team and individual activities. These include:

The Town of Placentia is also in the process of pursuing the construction of a community swimming pool in partnership with the Placentia Lions Club.

Placentia CYN (Community Youth Network) provides a variety of services, events and programs targeting youth in grades 7-12. The initiative concentrates on career development, leadership, community capacity building, recreation and supportive services. Placentia also offers summer recreation programs for younger children, aged 4 – 14.

Arts and crafts workshops and other activities are offered throughout the year at the Placentia Bay Cultural Arts Centre.

Healthcare

The Town of Placentia’s primary healthcare facility is the Placentia Health Centre operated by Eastern Health and is located at 1 Corrigan Place. The Placentia Health Care Centre is an acute care facility, offering 24-hour emergency care, obstetrics, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, X-Ray and lab, a diabetes clinic, and palliative care. The Town of Placentia also features both assisted living communities and primary care facilities.

Schools

The Town of Placentia offers full K – 12 educations through St. Anne’s Academy, a K – 6 primary school located in Dunville and Laval High School, which educates students from grades 7 to 12 in a new state of the art facility. Reflecting a strong tradition of active living and community engagement, both schools feature many extracurricular activities, including student council, sports, drama and music, and volunteer organizations.

The Town of Placentia is also home to a campus of the College of the North Atlantic, offering programs in heavy duty equipment mechanics, heavy equipment operation, welding, machinist, and industrial machinery.
