Storm Preparation Notification

Please be advised that a strong storm system is expected to effect our region beginning Tuesday afternoon and lasting into Wednesday evening.

Hazards may include significant rainfall (50 mm+ in 24 hours), winds exceeding 100km/h, and coastal flooding/large waves.

  • Secure loose items around your home.
  • Close and lock windows and doors; where appropriate, board up vulnerable openings.
  • Avoid parking by exposed coastlines.
  • Check your basement/foundation, clear gutters and ensure storm drains are clear.
  • Charge mobile devices and have backup lighting ready in cause of power outage.
  • Have an emergency kit assembled, including water (at least 24h supply), non-perishable food, medications, first aid supplies, blankets, important documents stored safely
  • Stay tuned to local media, weather alerts and updates from the Town of Placentia.
  • Avoid traveling during peak storm hours unless necessary.
  • If you live along the coast or low-lying shoreline, be especially alert to wave surge, high tides and rising water levels.
  • Do not ignore posted flood or evacuation warnings.
  • Stay indoors and away from windows during high-wind periods
  • Do not attempt to drive through flooded roads or around barricades
  • Stay off beaches, wharves and coastal walkways.
  • If flooding occurs in your home/apartment, disconnect electrical power at the main breaker if safe to do so.
  • Report downed power lines, damaged utility poles or large flooding/storm damage to the appropriate authorities immediately.
