
Temporary Labourers
Job Summary
The Temporary Labourer plays a key role in supporting the Town of Placentia’s Public Works Department in the maintenance and upkeep of municipal infrastructure, properties, and public spaces.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the maintenance, repair, and improvement of municipal infrastructure, including roads, sidewalks, recreational facilities and public spaces.
- Perform site preparation, cleanup, and general labour on public works projects.
- Conduct roadside brush cutting, vegetation control, and general landscaping duties.
- Complete asphalt patching, sidewalk repairs, and other surface maintenance as directed.
- Perform street sweeping, debris removal, and general upkeep of Town properties and facilities.
- Safely operate and maintain light construction tools and equipment.
- Set up and dismantle worksite signage, barricades, and other safety equipment.
- Direct traffic to ensure the safety of workers, motorists, and pedestrians around active work zones.
- Inspect, clean, and perform basic maintenance on tools, vehicles, and equipment.
- Adhere to all occupational health and safety regulations and Town policies.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned by supervisory personnel.
Hours: 40 hours weekly
Salary: As per CUPE 1761 Collective Agreement
Qualifications:
- High School Graduate or GED.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills.
- Clean Vulnerable Sector Check and Certificate of Conduct Required.
- Valid Newfoundland driver’s license and access to personal vehicle.
- Valid First Aid Certificate and WHIMIS Certificate or willingness to obtain upon hire.
